When it rains it pours

Image
That was especially true tonight because there were several storms that rolled through. The rain started around 4:30 ish and then around 5:00 p.m. the sirens went off letting us know that stronger storms that included heavy winds, hail, and a possible tornado were approaching. Since I am at work we went downstairs into the basement to wait it out. Even though a lot of the heavy stuff has gone past there is still a tornado watch, severe thunderstorm warning, and a couple flood advisories in effect for the moment. There is still a possibility for more heavy storms to come through overnight.  When I was younger didn't like storms at all. I would get really nervous when it stormed out, especially when there was a tornado involved. But I have stopped being scared/nervous of storms, though I still don't like them much, especially if I have to drive through them. While we were sitting in the basement waiting for all of the heavy stuff to pass, the electronic devices were pull

Yarn Dyeing: Take 2

Image
Back in August I wrote a post about how I was testing out yarn dyeing . Since it wasn't the right kind of yarn, it didn't retain a lot of the dye. Several Weeks ago a friend and I stopped in Hobby Lobby for a few minutes and we were over in the yarn section and I discovered that they were selling skeins of dye-able yarn. Even though I really don't need more yarn I bought a skein to try dyeing again. This time I tried kool-aid instead of Wilton food coloring. This time around, instead of heating the coloring/yarn combo in the microwave, I tried the dip-dyeing method. When I was looking for a dyeing method I just put it in Google and then found a set of instructions that I liked for dyeing the yarn. I used Black Cherry kool-aid, the sugar free kind, and I used five packets, and I like how the color turned out. Since I used the stove-top method for dyeing yarn it had to cool down to room temp before it could be rinsed out. At Wal-Mart the kool-aid packets are 24¢ each,

Shamrocks

Image
At the end of January I picked up a skein of Red Heart Green Tones yarn and decided to use it for a project that I will be starting. The yarn color and something that my mom said inspired me to make shamrocks for the current knitting project that I am working on. So off course I started looking around on Pinterest for an easy pattern for knitting shamrocks and the pattern that I am using can be found on the site Studio Knit . Since St. Patrick's day is just under a month away you can knit or crochet up a couple shamrocks to add to your outfit or to carry around so that you have some green and don't get pinched. Even though I don't crochet there are patterns for shamrocks as well. The yarn that I used to make the shamrocks is the yarn that I dyed back in August. Here is a picture of the shamrocks that I have made. picture by me I don't know what brand of yarn I used for this because I got it for free and it didn't have the label with it. When I made it I us

Scripture Writing

Image
Back in October I wrote a post about how I had come across a month long Scripture writing plan . I have been doing it every month since then. Even though it is already day 8 you can still jump in and join me in doing it this month.  taken by me Since the theme for February is love the verses for day 1 were John 3:16-17, which are two of my favorite verses and ones that everyone knows. John 3:16-17 Revised Standard Version (RSV) 16  For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.  17  For God sent the Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. The verses for days 2-7 were 1 John 4:7-21 and they explain how God is love and how love comes from God. The vorses for day 6 tell us that there is no fear in love, and that perfect love casts out fear.

Story Without a Name

Image
A couple weeks ago I was texting a friend of mine, who we will call Elsa, and after a while Elsa suggested that the two of us do a role playing game. Once we had each created a character and a basic story line, as well as a third character who hasn't been introduced yet who I am in charge of writing we started. After we had started working on it I liked how my side of the story was going so I decided to turn it into more of a story so I started flushing what I had already written and started adding things in. Since I just started writing it the story doesn't have a name yet. They aren't the greatest but here are the first few paragraphs that I have written so far. At 5’2” Carrie Richards barely touched the edge of the sleeping bag that sat on top of the shelving unit in the basement that held all of her camping gear. Grasping what she could Carrie pulled the fat roll towards her. Once it was off the shelf Carrie placed the sleeping bag next to the stairs. Facing the
