Reverse Miter Blanket

Image
The pattern for this blanket is actually for a dishcloth, but I decided that I didn't want to use the pattern to make a dishcloth. Instead, I decided to use it for a blanket. Now the reason why I am doing in reverse is that a while back I had found a blanket pattern on Ravelry for a Mitre Blanket where you start with somewhere between 300-600 stitches on the needles, depending on the size blanket that you wanted to make. That was before you slowly make your way down to one-three stitches at the very end. And I tried making a blanket with that pattern once with 600 stitches and I didn't like it. So after a while I found this pattern and finally decided to give it a try. taken by me The pattern calls for you to use " worsted weight cotton yarn (Lion Kitchen Cotton or Sugar and Cream) and a pair of size 7 knitting needles," to make a dishcloth. To make the blanket I am using size 9 circular knitting needles and six skeins of Lion Brand Homespun in Pearl  and Pain

Making Book Covers

Image
As of the beginning of last week, I am now participating in Camp NaNoWriMo next month. Why? Because I can and I have an idea that I want to try out. And because every book needs a cover that attracts attention I decided to go into Canva the other night and play around with some pictures and title ideas that I have for the novel that I plan on writing. If you haven't heard me talk about Camp NaNo before, I will briefly explain what it is. It is like the regular NaNoWriMo that happens during the month of November. But with Camp NaNo, more often then not, it happens during the months of April and July. With the new website that NaNo released you can join in different groups, instead of staying in one 'cabin.' I find that having smaller groups like this makes it easier to get to know some of your fellow writers a little bit better.  Anyhow, here are some covers that I made to go with the story idea that I have and am planning on doing for Camp NaNo next month. Since I haven

Problems with Social Media

Image
I honestly don't remember how I stumbled on the idea for this blog post. But no matter where I found it or how I found it, the topic of social media and problems it causes is something that needs to be talked about. Especially because of how it affects our lives every day. Like with my post ' How Do You Show Love? ' I turned to social media and asked the question "What are 5 problems with Social Media?" And these are the answers that I got back along with my responses to them. Photo by  Prateek Katyal  on  Unsplash “People can be so mean…” – Unfortunately, this is something that happens online and offline. While it might not seem effective, whether it is a slow progression or not at all, we can do our best to combat meanness by being kind to others and showing them respect as people and with a positive attitude.  “False Information” – This is something is greatly perpetuated by social media and the internet, whether it is through people or the media

Counting Rows and Stitches in Knitting

Image
Back when I first started getting into knitting, I had gotten one of the "I taught myself to Knit" kits that Walmart sells for Christmas one year. Included in the kit was  a stitch counter, which is now somewhere in my knitting supplies, but I haven't ever tried it yet. Instead, I prefer writing down which row or round I am on. I don't remember why I started doing it this way or why. But it comes in handy, especially if the pattern has sections where you are working the same stitch for multiple rows. While I typically don't do many patterns that call for needing to use a stitch counter or the paper and pen/pencil method, I currently have two patterns in progress that have sections that I need to keep track of which row I am on since I am slowly working on them. The first pattern is a shawl pattern from Darn Good Yarn, while I haven't worked on it in a while, I know where I will be in the pattern when I do start working on it again. Because a few years ago I

Last Minute Lent Ideas

Image
Since we are now in the season of Lent and even if you have already decided on what you are going to be giving up or adding to your daily routine.  My intention with this blog is to share ideas, so in that spirit, I am sharing a list (not exhaustive by any means) that has an unknown source and trusting we can read it and not automatically find offense.  unknown source . #Lent   #Lentendiscipline   #Catholic   #LentenResolutions
