Arts and Crafts Anyone?

Image
A couple of months ago three of my siblings re-painted and re-arranged their rooms. Since I have my own room now, the only changes that I have made so far have been to get rid of the bunk bed that was there and replaced it with two single beds, one is for guests or if my sister comes home to visit. I also moved a tall shelf-thing from where it had been at the end of the bunk beds to the corner next to my bed and moving a canvas picture from in between the windows to a different wall. During all of the re-painting and re-arranging of rooms, I had the idea to get a stencil and paint it in between the windows in my room. It took me a while to figure out what type of stencil I wanted to get and what size. The stencil that I ended up with is a set of 3 small-ish size stencils with an owl and flowers on them. After I had bought the stencils they sat in my room because I didn't know if I wanted to paint them all white and then go over them with another color so that they didn't bl...

Getting Craft with Some Wood

Image
I honestly don't remember exactly when I came up with the idea for this project, but once it showed up it didn't want to leave. Part of how this project came to me is that I had purchased the wood at Michael's for something else that ended up not working with the piece. Since I had already removed the packaging I couldn't return it so I had to think of something else to use it for. The picture I took and used. Again I don't remember how I exactly thought of this but I went with it anyhow. But since we have multiple stencils with the alphabet in different fonts on them I grabbed them out of the draw that they are stored in and then picked the one that I liked the best. After I traced the words onto the wood I plugged in the wood burner that we have and went to work burning the letters. With the wood burner it didn't take that long to do the letters and I like the way that they turned out. Before I actually did the letters I used a heart stencil on the ba...

The Queen of taking apart projects

Image
I came up with the title for this post the other day when I was taking apart the blanket that I had started working on. The reason why I was taking it apart is because I hadn't gotten enough yarn when I was at Michael's. And when I realized that I went back to Michael's earlier this week to get more of the yarn I needed and they were out of it. So after a slight freak out moment and wandering around and looking at all of the other yarn options and asking my mom about I should do, we decided that it would make more sense to start over with new yarn. Now instead of wasting the yarn that I had originally gotten for the blanket, I am going to save it and turn it into a baby blanket to give away when it is finished. Once I finish the baby blanket and the new blanket that I am making for myself I will post pictures. The besides it coming into mind the other day when taking apart the blanket, the title also works for all of the knitting projects that I have done that I hav...

Knitting

Image
The picture to the left is a picture of all of the knitting needles that I own. Also fetures is a kitting gague, which I haven't ever used, a cable needle, a stitch holder, and place markers. Not pictured are the point protectors and yarn needles that I own. Lately I have been thinking of starting another knitting project, even though February is almost over and we are getting closer to spring. So this evening I pullef out my bag of knitting needles and started organizing them all on the floor. That was when I got the random idea to do a blog post on them. The first pair of size 8 needles that I got, not pictured, were given to me by my grandma years ago. My grandma also gave me a pair of size 10 circular knitting needles. My grandma taught me how to knit, though we use to different styles. Since then I have added more needles to my collection. So far I have only bought two sets of needles out of the 18 sets of needles that I own. I bought a set of double pointed needl...

7 Quick Takes Friday

--1-- Even though this week, with the exception of Monday, has been in the 50's and 40's I don't really care because it means that warmer weather is still on it's way and will hopefully be here sometime soon. On Monday it is supposed to be in the upper 40's and snowing. I don't want the snow right now, especially when it is officially spring. But that is one way to start of spring break I guess. --2-- I saw this on Pinterest the other day and thought that it was a really cute idea!!! Especially if you don't know what to give someone for a present. Graduation present I made my best friend... Wooden letter (purchased from Hobby Lobby) covered in wallet pictures.. Modge-Podge wooden letter then cover with pictures, lastly Modge-Podge over pictures with paint  brush..no   sponge :) Write on back as you would a card to utilize space and make it more special! --3-- Another Pinterest find that I found the other day was a link to a blog ...

Knitting Project #2

Image
Back in November I mentioned that I was going to be making a hat for myself. The pattern that I used can be found here . This time I remembered to take a few in progress pictures while I was making it.  I don't know if anyone else does this, but I find it easier, especially for larger projects like the blanket that I am still working on, to keep track of how many rows that you have to do. The two tops rows were for keeping track of the all the rows of ribbing that I had to do for the bottom of the hat. The row and a half were for when I did hte body of the hat. The finished product

Getting Craft for Christmas

Image
Over the weekend I had decided to paint an old stationary box that I had found in one of the drawers on my desk. Unfortunately by the time I thought to take pictures of the process I had already painted the box, so I don't have pictures of what it used to look like. Since the box is going to be used for something I am please with the way that it turned out. Rosebud had always been the crafty one in the family. On Thursday the theater class that she is in, is having their Christmas party and she made a Nativity scene for the White Elephant that they are doing and it is adorable. Though you can't see him very well baby Jesus is in the manger.

Crafty for Christmas

Even though Christmas is almost here I thought that it would be fun to share some Christmas themed craft ideas that I have found on Pinterest. One craft idea that I found was making star ornaments out of old sweaters and thought that it was a cute idea. Unfortunately there wasn't a pattern for this anywhere that I could find Another homemade Christmas ornament idea that I found was making handprint snowmen, which can be found here .  This adorable Frozen ornament, that I found on an Etsy shop , is a cute idea.  These Mason Jar Lid Snowmen ornaments look adorable and easy to make.

Making Snowflakes

Image
Sunday night I was feeling kind of bored so I decided to start making paper snowflakes since it is after Thanksgiving and still a reasonable time to start making them. A while ago I had found something that has patterns for making snowflakes on Pinterest and I tried one of the patters and this is what it ended up looking like: These are two snowflakes that I made using a pattern that I came up with instead of trying to follow one of the patterns that I had found.

7 Quick Takes Friday

Image
--- 1 --- I got to watch the second episode of Sherlock again on Sunday and I enjoyed it more the second time around since I was able to watch it all of the way through instead of having to do it in pieces. It is still my favorite Sherlock episode out of all three seasons :) --- 2 --- My mother, Yavi and Amanda started watching Downton Abbey season 4 on Sunday. I am only really watching it for the grandma because she is my favorite character. --- 3 --- On Monday the college that Yavi, Amanda and I go to had a snow day because it was incredibly cold (-2 degrees during the day and -17 in the evening) and windy. This is what it said on the Weather Channel about Monday: " Bitterly cold. Partly cloudy skies with gusty winds. Dangerous wind chills as low as -25F. High -2F. Winds WNW at 20 to 30 mph." Tuesday was a snow day as well because it was still really cold, though not quite as cold as Monday was. --- 4 --- Anyone remember the blanket that I had said that I ...

--- 1 --- Dr. Who fan art that I found on Tumblr. River + Eleven --- 2 --- Also a tumblr find!!!  New Season 3 Still for Sherlock!!!!!! --- 3 --- Since this is the end of the first week on NaNoWriMo I figured I'd share a small section from my story :) One cold December night on the outskirts of Paris, France a messenger arrived at the palace and demanded to see King Leonard and Queen Clotilde. When the king and queen came down to the entrance way the messenger told them that the king's younger brother Reynard was going to kill them and their eight month old son Arthur, so that Reynard's son Leviathan could become king of France when he became older instead of the current prince. Nodding Leonard asked the messenger how he had come across the information. Clearing his throat a bit nervously the messenger said that he had found it written on a piece of parchment that was being sent from Reynard to his personal adviser and he had intercepted the me...
