Wednesday Recipes - Sloppy Joes

Image
This recipe from Taste of Home is something that my family and I have been making for quite a few years now. And it is an easy recipe to double as well as bring to potlucks. My family also makes this recipe sometimes with beef instead of turkey and it is easy to do. We also leave out the celery seed and you can use any type of hamburger bun that you want. Ingredients 1 pound lean ground turkey 1/4 cup chopped onion 1/2 cup no-salt-added ketchup 3 tablespoons barbecue sauce 1 tablespoon white vinegar 1 tablespoon prepared mustard 1-1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce 1/2 teaspoon celery seed 1/4 teaspoon pepper 6 whole-wheat hamburger buns, split Directions In a large skillet, cook and crumble turkey with onion over medium heat until no longer pink, 5-7 minutes. Stir in all remaining ingredients except buns; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Serve on buns. Easy Homemade Pancake Recipe

Image
I don't remember where my sister originally found this pancake recipe, but we all love it and it is the recipe that we use on Sundays when we make pancakes for breakfast. The recipe also works well to make waffles with as well. So it is a 2-for-1 recipe and is super delicious, especially if you add blueberries or bananas to the batter. The recipe is also easy to double or triple depending on what you need it to make. Since we made waffles the other week for dinner I decided to share the recipe here!!! Especially since NaNoWriMo starts tomorrow, or it has started depending on what part of the world that you live in. And I know that people are always looking for easy meals to prep during NaNo. Photo by  nikldn  on  Unsplash Homemade Pancakes Author: Domestic Dee Recipe Type: Breakfast Serves: 8 Ingredients 1 cup flour 2 teaspoons baking powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 3 tablespoons sugar 1 cup milk 2 tablespoons oil 1 teaspoon vanilla Instructions Heat s...

Melt In Your Mouth Chicken Breast | A Recipe Review

Image
For several years now during the season of Lent my family and I have done a specific meal on the same night of the week. On Thursdays this year the meal someone makes each week for dinner is called Melt In Your Mouth Chicken Breast* and it is delicious. We have baked potatoes and veggies with it as well. Because we enjoy this meal so much and since it is so easy to make I thought I would share it here. Photo by  Jonathan Melendez Melt In Your Mouth Chicken Breast Ingredients: 4 boneless chicken breasts, halves 1 cup mayonnaise 1/2 cup parmesan cheese, freshly grated (we use pre-grated) 1 1/2 tsp seasoning salt 1/2 tsp black pepper, ground 1 tsp garlic powder Directions: Mix mayonnaise, cheese, and seasonings. Spread mixture over chicken breast and place in baking dish Bake at 375°F for 45 minutes. Easy Crock Pot Mac & Cheese Recipe

Image
I don't really know where this recipe originally came from, but it is in our house and it tastes good and is easy to make. So here is the recipe for easy crock pot mac and cheese. Ingredients: 3 cups Shredded Cheddar Cheese 2 1/2 cups Milk 12 oz. Evaporated Milk 8 oz. Cream Cheese 16 oz. Elbow Macaroni Directions: Put all ingredients, except for macaroni, into the crock pot. Leave on low for an hour. After 1 hour, stir the sauce in crock pot. After the sauce has been "crock potting" for about 45 minutes, make macaroni & drain. Add cooked macaroni to sauce after it has been drained. Add any extras you like. (Ham, bacon, etc.) Cook on low for another 45 minutes. Feeds approximately 6-8. Tip: you do not have to add all evaporated milk or cream cheese if you do not like it very cheesy.

31 DBC: Favorite Comfort Food

Image
Cheese sausage veggies pepperoni ham pineapple Out of the list of food items that are typically found on pizzas my favorites are sausage and plain cheese pizza. Pepperoni is okay once in a while, but it is not a favorite of mine.  When most people hear the words comfort and food together in a sentence it is typical to think of ice cream. While I enjoy eating ice cream, my favorite comfort food is pizza. For me there is something about warm cheesy pizza that is comforting to me.

Family Adventures and Bonding Time

Image
taken by me Since my mom's birthday and Labor day were the same day, she wanted to celebrate this past weekend. On Saturday we started the day off, since the kids didn't have soccer, by going to look at a house that is for sale in our area. It was a pretty decent house and on a nice quiet street. After walking around the house for an hour we went out to a nearby restaurant for lunch. I have been to the place where we went for lunch a few times before and they have good food. For church on Sunday my mom wanted to go to the Byzantine Liturgy, so we went. If you haven't ever been to the Byzantine Divine Liturgy, I highly recommend that you go to one. Taken by my mom After that the plan was to eat lunch in the car as we drove to a beach that a lot of our friends had gone too before and go swimming for a couple hours and then have dinner later. But by the time we left church and got there it was full. So we drove another twenty minutes to a different beach, but ...

An Unexpected Day Off = Baking

Image
Last week during one of my many Pinterest scroll and pinning sprees I found a delicious sounding recipe for Cinnamon Oatmeal Muffins. So I printed out the recipe and thought that I wouldn't be able to make them last week. But I ended up having Thursday off of work unexpectedly so I decided to make the muffins. Cinnamon Oatmeal Muffins Recipe: 1 egg (room temperature) 1 tbsp. coconut oil (melted) 1 cup milk (I used almond) ½ cup honey 1 cup flour* 1 cup rolled oats ½ tsp salt ½ tbsp. baking powder 2 tsps. cinnamon Recipe Directions:  Preheat oven to 400 degrees. In a large bowl add egg, honey, and melted oil. Stir until the ingredients are combined and slowly stir in milk. Add the oats to the mixture and let it rest for 1-2 minutes. Mix the dry ingredients in a small bowl and add to the mixture. Mix until dry ingredients are blended in well. Place cupcake liners in a muffin tin and add 1-2 heaping tablespoons of batter to each liner. Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes or unt...

Meatless Friday

Image
We have this salmon recipe in our large yellow recipe binder and I had tried it once before, though it hadn't turned out quite like it was supposed to, at leas I think it didn't. Anyhow I decided to try it again today since I was looking for a meatless lunch option. Since it only takes a few minutes to prepare the sauce part of it as well as bake I decided to share the recipe on here. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Place salmon in pan and sprinkle with garlic, salt and pepper. In a bowl mix 1/2 stick butter*, a drizzle of honey, 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, 1/3 cup mayo. Spread of salmon and bake about 15 mins or until flaky. *I find that it woks best if the butter is softened a bit first, before it is added to the other sauce ingredients.

Cherry Banana Oatmeal Smoothie

Image
Since I didn't really eat much for lunch today I was starving around 3:30-4:00 and that resulted in me creating a new smoothie! My original idea was to do a Blueberry Strawberry Banana Peanut Butter smoothie. But my mom said that she didn't think the peanut butter and blueberries would go together, so I switched ideas. While I personally think that the smoothie could be a little bit less think, it was still pretty good. So without further ado here is the recipe that I created for the Cherry Banana Oatmeal Smoothie. Ingredients: 1/2 cup Oatmeal  1 Banana 1 cup chopped cherries  (I used frozen tart cherries for this) 1 1/2 cups milk* Splash of Vanilla If you don't like a lot of grittiness you can grind up oatmeal in the blender first before adding the other ingredients. Put everything in the blender.  Since I used tart baking cherries I added a pinch of sugar to my smoothie so that it wouldn't be to tart from the cherries.  *Almond...

7 Quick Takes Friday: The Dessert Edition

Image
--1-- Since it is the 4th of July tomorrow I decided to do this weeks 7 Quick Takes with a different dessert for each take. While I haven't had a chance to try any of the recipes yet I thought that it would be fun to share them.  The first dessert recipe on the list is for Strawberry Blueberry Crumble . It sounds like it would be delicious and really easy to make, though I would personally leave out the almond slices. --2-- Recipe number 2 is Strawberry and Blueberry Cheesecake Icebox Cake . The creator of the recipe said that she made the dessert for Memorial Day, but I think it could be made for the 4th of July as well.  --3-- This one I am sharing simply because it looks rather interesting, and not really something that I would necessarily want to make. The third recipe is Red, White and Blue Truffle . --4-- This particular recipe is another rather vibrant red, white and blue dessert and is aptly named Red, White and Blue Cheeseca...

Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie

I honestly can't remember if I have ever shared the recipe for a smoothie that I found on Pinterest a while ago. In case I didn't here is the recipe. 1 large banana, peeled ( I use a frozen banana) 1 cup ice cubes (I usually just do three ice cubes) 1/2 cup almond milk 1/4 cup Greek yogurt ( I use plain) 1 heaping Tbsp. peanut butter 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract In a blender, combine all ingredients. Blend until smooth, and serve immediately.

Playing with Food Coloring

Image
Awhile ago I had gotten a glass Coca-Cola bottle from Mariano's and had decided to save it for when it snowed out for picture taking. Well it snowed out and filling the bottle with snow wasn't as easy as I thought it would be so I came up with another picture taking idea for it and this is what happened. So with the help of some water and blue and yellow food coloring here are the pictures that I took

7 Quick Takes Friday

Image
--- 1 --- Last week on Saturday four out of six siblings had rehearsal all day for their upcoming Christmas play "The Conversion of Scrooge,"and Aaliyah was helping out at a food pantry in the morning. So it was just me, my mom and Amanda at home, so we decided to stop over at Hobby Lobby to do some shopping. --- 2 --- Even though I usually don't like to start my Christmas shopping until after Thanksgiving I found some crafts to add to presents. For the three kids that I nanny I got them each an ornament that you could color, though I already did that. For the oldest girl that I nanny as part of her Christmas present from me I got a canvas bag and decorated it. But now that Thanksgiving is over I can start looking for the rest of the presents that I need. --- 3 --- At the end of August we started doing a clean eating plan thing and one of the smoothie recipes that you get with it is a peanut butter smoothie and I really like it so I decided to share it here ...

My Jumbled Thoughts

Image
Whenever we get ideas that we think are cool we always have to write them down right away or tell them to someone to see what they think. But whenever we go to expound upon the ideas more the words don't always come out the way that we want them too. In the past couple days I have come up with to ideas that I thought would make great blog posts but when I started writing and expounding on the ideas it didn't feel right. Maybe the right time for me to write and share those posts will come later down the road, since right now isn't the right time. Since I has probably said this many times before on here, I have a hard time coming up with things to write and post about on here, so I just normally complain about that and post about the weather. This is probably one of the few times that I have just talked about something other than the weather and my complaining. On Friday afternoon when I was waiting to pick up the kids that I nanny, from school I came up with two other i...
