Success

See your goal - This goal can be different for everyone. Sometimes people can have the same goal or it can be complete opposites. The point is that you can see your goal and know what it is that you want to do. Understand the obstacles - Obstacles are a part of life that we all face at some point. What those look like will change over time. Especially when we jump from object to object. But they are something that can be understood and worked through to make us stronger and better people.  Create a positive mental picture - Once we see our goal(s) and understand the obstacles that go with them, we can create a more positive picture and mindset. If we don't work on being positive, then it can be a lot harder to reach our goals.  Photo by Mohamed Nohassi on Unsplash Clear your mind of self-doubt - Like creating positive mental pictures, clearing the self-doubt will help us all in the long run. Because self-doubt is that nagging voice that we hear in our heads. It's oft...

We Got This

Image
I don't know who needs to hear this, but you are not broken. There is nothing wrong with you. Unfortunately, there is a lot wrong in the world, and it's normal to recognize those things. Often times we feel broken, or something is wrong with us because of something that happens to us. And it can affect us down the road as we move through life. Because of this, we have a hard time asking others for help. Through our life experiences, we often think that we need to do something alone and that no one will want to help us. But don't be afraid to ask for help. Because we don't have it all together like we might think we do. While it might be easier for some people, we all need to learn that having help is okay. There is nothing wrong with needing or asking for help. When saying things like "it takes a village," some people don't have a village. Because of that, they have to figure it out on their own. And that can be hard to do, feeding into feeling like they...

The Other Side of Modesty

Image
When we hear the word modesty, the first thing that comes to mind is clothing that covers everything or the majority of your body. Dressing modestly is something I have grown up with and have been around my entire life. And it can be considered a "hot topic" regarding what girls and women wear. Especially when it comes to places like schools and the workplace. But most people don't realize that modesty isn't just about what you wear; it is also about how you act around others and toward yourself.  Photo by Amanda Canas on Unsplash I am talking about this because I read an article on my Facebook feed the other day about a father who posted a picture with his two daughters in their homecoming dresses. And it was talking about his response to the people commenting on the style of the dresses. I don't remember the article's name, but I do know that it mentioned "girls to dress, so they don't distract boys," as well as saying that they are "aski...

Boys Will Be Boys?

Image
More often than not, I feel like many phrases have been ingrained in our society for a long time. A good example is a common phrase, "Boys will be boys." But what is that even supposed to mean?  Photo by Ben Sweet on Unsplash Quite often, the phrase is used to explain the behavior of men and boys when they do something that other people disagree with. Unfortunately, it has been like that for a long time, and it doesn't seem like much has changed, especially when you look at current politics, sexual harassment, etc. I don't know what others think about the phrase. Still, I believe that it needs to leave our vocabulary and that people need to work on themselves and how they respond and react to different topics where that phrase is used.  A current example of how the phrase "Boys will be boys" could be used is the recent Johnny Depp/Amber Heard Trial. While I didn't follow any of the hearings, it shows how the phrase could be used to throw the blame on ...

What If Today...

Image
What if today we were just grateful for mornings. Photo by Sharon Pittaway on Unsplash  and edited by me What if today we were just grateful for nights. What if today we were just grateful for the food on the table.  What if today we were just grateful for a bike to ride. What if today were just grateful for a game to play. What if today we were just grateful for the friends we make. What if we were just grateful for a roof over our heads. What if today we were just grateful for our family. What if today we were just grateful for another day to be alive. What if today we were just grateful for everything.

Always Right?

Image
Is the customer always right? Some people out there would answer that question with a resounding yes. Others might answer it with a hard no. But which is the correct answer to that question? Photo by Hello I'm Nik on Unsplash . Edited by me It would seem like yes, and no is the correct answer. Part of this is because some people like to create a scene and use their emotions to make people feel sorry for them. Since it is a bit of a classic question, it seems like it will be around for a while. Often the phrase is used by customers when they claim that something was entered wrong during a purchase, whether at the grocery store or a restaurant. But whatever the case may be, the customer isn't always right unless it is a legitimate claim.  Although I have rarely come across "Karen's," and their need always be correct, I know they are out there since I work in retail and have encountered some annoyed/upset customers. Of course, no one is perfect, but we still need ...

Motivation Is...

Image
Now, this is partially a lesson on why you must write things down as soon as you hear them and remember them. Because that is what happened to me the other day :P Photo by Oliver Hale on Unsplash So how does that pertain to motivation? Well, let me tell you. Several weeks ago I started going to therapy and in one of my most recent sessions, the topic of motivation was brought up during our conversation. Now about the word motivation, my therapist said something along the lines of "Motivation is a choice." While I don't remember the exact wording that was used I really liked what she said and in my head, I was like I should write this down so I don't forget it. But I didn't write it down and I, naturally, forgot what the exact wording was. There was another thing that she said as well that I really like and that was also not written down and therefore forgotten. Because that is just how my brain works right now.  But she isn't wrong, because motivation is a ...

Trying Something New

Image
Photo by Towfiqu barbhuiya on Unsplash When it comes to life and things in general it can feel a little crazy, or nuts at times. Am I right? Well, the other day, I can't remember if it was at work or at home, someone used the phrase "Oh nuts" about something that had just happened. And it stuck in my head for some reason and I also thought about my blog here, which ended up in a bit of a hole last year with barely any writing. And after a little bit of thinking, I decided that my little hole here on the blogosphere needed a bit of an update since it has been a while since I did an update around here.  Of course, an update here means changing the background color, font style, and name. I know for a while the name was the same, but after a while, it started to not feel like me really anymore. Though for a while I couldn't think of anything else that fit me and worked as a new name for here. That is until whoever it was said "oh nuts," the other day. And f...

Discomfort & Vulnerability

Image
This is a post that I started back in 2020 during the "height" of the coronavirus and then sort of forgot about and let fall to the side. Especially since I have only put out one post in 2021, compared to all of the ones that I had put out during 2020. When I started working on the idea for this post, while I don't remember where I came up with or found the topic, I asked people a simple question about what made them vulnerable or how they showed/felt discomfort. While I didn't get that many answers for either question, the ones that I did receive were good responses to what I had asked.  The photo was taken by me My original title for this post was "Seek Discomfort and Vulnerability," but sometimes I think those things find us instead. And I believe that was part of my thought process behind asking the questions and then this post. When we are faced with discomfort and vulnerability, either together or separately, we have to face them, and sometimes it fee...

Problems with Social Media

Image
I honestly don't remember how I stumbled on the idea for this blog post. But no matter where I found it or how I found it, the topic of social media and problems it causes is something that needs to be talked about. Especially because of how it affects our lives every day. Like with my post ' How Do You Show Love? ' I turned to social media and asked the question "What are 5 problems with Social Media?" And these are the answers that I got back along with my responses to them. Photo by  Prateek Katyal  on  Unsplash “People can be so mean…” – Unfortunately, this is something that happens online and offline. While it might not seem effective, whether it is a slow progression or not at all, we can do our best to combat meanness by being kind to others and showing them respect as people and with a positive attitude.  “False Information” – This is something is greatly perpetuated by social media and the internet, whether it is through people or the media ...

Counting Rows and Stitches in Knitting

Image
Back when I first started getting into knitting, I had gotten one of the "I taught myself to Knit" kits that Walmart sells for Christmas one year. Included in the kit was  a stitch counter, which is now somewhere in my knitting supplies, but I haven't ever tried it yet. Instead, I prefer writing down which row or round I am on. I don't remember why I started doing it this way or why. But it comes in handy, especially if the pattern has sections where you are working the same stitch for multiple rows. While I typically don't do many patterns that call for needing to use a stitch counter or the paper and pen/pencil method, I currently have two patterns in progress that have sections that I need to keep track of which row I am on since I am slowly working on them. The first pattern is a shawl pattern from Darn Good Yarn, while I haven't worked on it in a while, I know where I will be in the pattern when I do start working on it again. Because a few years ago I...

How Do You Show Love?

Image
Several weeks ago I was doing another round of scrolling through Pinterest looking for more blog prompts/ideas to write about or get ideas from. And one of the prompts that I came across was in a month-long challenge for the month of February. Since there were several prompts that involved the topic of love, because of Valentine's Day, I decided to write down a few of them. One of the questions that I wrote down is "How Do You Show Love?" Instead of trying to come up with an entire post just on how I show love, what I did is I shared this question on social media so that people could respond. And here are the responses that I received to this question. "Through my actions towards someone." "Small Comforts." "Entertain others, care for my legacy." "Doing something for someone." ------------------- Based on these answers alone, we can see that people have different ways that they show love as it correspond...

What’s on Your Reading List for 2020?

Image
What’s on your reading list for 2020?  When it comes to books and reading I don't normally make a list of what I am reading. Typically what I do is when I am at the library I look through the new books shelves and the 'themed' shelves that my library does. If I find books that sound interesting and like something that I would read I will pick them up and bring them with me until I am ready to leave. Other times I will look up book suggestions from friends or that other people suggest to me and get them.  Taken by me But this year I am starting out with a shortlist of books that I plan on working my way through. And the books are " The Hobbit " and " The Lord of the Rings " trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien. Once I am finished reading those books I am currently planning on reading the book "The Time Traveler's Wife" by Audry Niffenegger. It has been on my Want to Read list on Goodreads since last year when I got a paperback copy of the bo...

Saint Padre Pio’s Christmas Meditation*

Image
Far into the night, at the coldest time of the year, in a chilly grotto, more suitable for a flock of beasts than for humans, the promised Messiah – Jesus – the savior of mankind, comes into the world in the fullness of time. There are none who clamor around him: only an ox and an ass lending their warmth to the newborn infant; with a humble woman, and a poor and tired man, in adoration beside him. Found on Google Nothing can be heard except the sobs and whimpers of the infant God. And by means of his crying and weeping he offers to the Divine justice the first ransom for our redemption. He had been expected for forty centuries; with longing sighs the ancient Fathers had implored his arrival. The sacred scriptures clearly prophesy the time and the place of his birth, and yet the world is silent and no one seems aware of the great event. Only some shepherds, who had been busy watching over their sheep in the meadows, come to visit him. Heavenly visitors had alerted ...

Fantasy Book Title Generator

Image
Every great once in a while a fun name/book title generator will show up on my Facebook feed from one of the writing groups I am in. Sometimes the names that I get from these aren't the greatest. But I actually liked the name that I got from this Fantasy book title generator and it is something that I would want to read if it was a real book. My generated Fantasy Book Title is "War of Evil Destiny." Not mine. I found it on Facebook.

Sometimes The Smallest Step

Image
Sometimes the smallest step in the right direction...Will create the biggest change in your life! Photo by  Jon Tyson  on  Unsplash Everyone is afraid at some point in their lives to take the first small step in the right direction towards something great. For each person, that direction will be different, but we will all get there. Whether it is in the way that we expected it too. Or in a way that is completely different than what we had expected it too. But the moment we take the first small step it will create the biggest change in our lives. What that change is no one knows. Although the first step and the first change go hand in hand we can't see the future, though we are always trying to change the direction that we are going in. Even if we do change direction and go in the wrong direction that first step will take us to something that will change us for better or worse. Sometimes people plan on setting out to do great things in their lives, but then they e...

You Were Born Original

Image
Nowadays it seems like everyone is trying to be the same. But that can't work well. Because you were born original, don't die the photocopy.  Photo by  RhondaK Native Florida Folk Artist  on  Unsplash Being the elephant in the room isn't always a bad thing, being the elephant in the room show you're not afraid to be different. And we can all be the elephant in the room because we are all different and original. If we are a photocopy than we aren't being our true selves. As an original, we are all part of a greater puzzle that works better together when we are being ourselves. Because a photocopy doesn't work the same if we are placing it in a puzzle.  "In a way, you've already won in this world. Because you're the only one who can be you." - Mr. Rodgers. What Mr. Rodgers says in the above quote is true. We have already won in this world as ourselves and by being original. If we aren't being original than we haven't won and w...
