Oh Nuts

Especially if you don't remember asking for it at all. Earlier this afternoon Amanda and my mom were going out shopping together and I apparently told them to bring something back. Even if I don't remember saying something they did and brought me back a surprise. When they were at Hobby Lobby my mom found this sign <= and decided to get it for me. Since it was a surprise I made me think of the quote from "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," that I used as the title for this post.

The other day I was feeling a bit board, so I decided to try something new. Since I enjoy knitting and own a cable needle I decided to give cable knitting a try. On the left is my feeble attempt and trying cable knitting. I apologize for it being a little hard to see. But I can say that it doesn't really look like a cable at all. It probably would have turned out better if I had been listening to the instruction video that I was watching instead. As of last (Friday) night I think I might have figured out what I was doing wrong with the cable part of the project. Whatever I end up doing with this I am going to keep practicing cable knitting so that I can get better and start adding it to future knitting projects. For the Psychology class I am currently taking, we have to do reading reflections for the different chapters that we have read and each section of chapters has a different reflection to go with them. After reading the title of this post you are wondering what those all have in common besides being books. Well every month my library has a row of shelves in the Adult section where they highlight a couple different types of books that they have. The themes for the month of April are: April in Paris Comic books Poetry  First Book in a Series So far the only theme section that I have found any interesting books in was "April in Paris." I am not a huge comic book or poetry fan so those themes didn't sound interesting. None of the books in the  "First Book in a Series" didn't jump out and grab my attention either. I just finished reading "One Evening in Paris." At first I felt like it moved a little slow, but then it picked up and didn't take me long to finish it once I got into it more. I came up with the title for this post the other day when I was taking apart the blanket that I had started working on. The reason why I was taking it apart is because I hadn't gotten enough yarn when I was at Michael's. And when I realized that I went back to Michael's earlier this week to get more of the yarn I needed and they were out of it. So after a slight freak out moment and wandering around and looking at all of the other yarn options and asking my mom about I should do, we decided that it would make more sense to start over with new yarn. Now instead of wasting the yarn that I had originally gotten for the blanket, I am going to save it and turn it into a baby blanket to give away when it is finished. Once I finish the baby blanket and the new blanket that I am making for myself I will post pictures. I am officially on spring break at the moment. Well it technically started last week on Thursday when my Psychology class ended for the day. I was supposed to have some homework to do this week for two of my classes, but that is all finished and turned in online, so the only thing that I have to worry about that is school related is studying for a Psychology test that I have next week, and signing up for a class that I have to take over the summer. Even though it's actually not until Thursday, my family and I celebrated St. Patrick's Day with my dad's side of the family on Sunday. Over a month ago I had gotten several books full of knitting patterns from the library because I wanted to start knitting something again, but needed new ideas. As I was flipping through the books there were some patterns that I wanted to try. A week or two ago I started working on a pattern for an ear-warmer, using the pattern that was in one of the books. Then I decided to also give a pattern for a potholder, that was in one of the other books, a try at the same time. Though I only got as far as casting on the correct number of stitches for the potholder. The reason why I didn't get very far with the potholder pattern is because last week, while I was at Michael's with my two youngest siblings, I came across several balls of this really pretty thick grey variegated yarn and the first idea the popped into my head was to use it and give arm knitting a try. Why is it that everyone is always getting hung up and stuck on the word perfect? What is so important about that particular word that we can't seem to let it go? When you look the word "perfect" in the dictionary, I used the American Heritage Dictionary, you get a list of different ways that the word "perfect" is used. Here is the list for what "perfect" means in the dictionary. per·fect    (pûr   f ĭ kt) adj. 1.  Lacking nothing essential to the whole; complete of its nature or kind. 2.  Being without defect or blemish:   a perfect specimen. Just by reading the first two definitions, there are 12 definitions total, it is easy to see how the word is being used in society. And just because society is telling us that we need to be perfect in order to be happy doesn't mean that we have to go along. It is okay to be happy without being perfect at the same time.
