A Story of Five Blankets

Back in January of last year one of my cousin's got engaged and I had the idea to make them a blanket, though I didn't know what yarn or pattern I wanted to use for it. Then in the middle of February/beginning of March I was at the library across the street hanging out with the Fiber Arts that meets there every week and one of the ladies there was giving away a bunch of free yarn and in the yarn was a plastic bag with three skeins of Mainstays Home 4-Ply Worsted yarn (colorway: Mountain Top) and I took it home.

After having it sit in my room for several months of the yarn sitting in my room collecting dust, I finally found a pattern that I wanted to use the yarn for, along with a skein of white yarn that I had so that it went farther. The pattern that I found was the Log Cabin pattern. It is a really easy pattern to follow and you can do it with any type of yarn. The beginning of June I started working on the blanket with the intent of having it finished by the bridal shower so that I could bring it as my gift.

But as I started using the third skein of yarn I realized that the blanket wasn't going to be big enough even with the white yarn that I was adding to it. After doing some research I discovered that the brand of yarn that I was using was discontinued, so I had no way to get more of it. So after some thinking and being told by my mother to eventually finish the blanket, I pulled out the couple of skeins of light green yarn, and coordinating variegated yarn, which I had also gotten for free from the same group, I started working on blanket #2, which was another Log Cabin blanket, with the new yarn. But as luck would have it I realized, as I was starting the second skein of yarn, that the blanket still wouldn't be the size that I wanted it to be. So I pulled out the section that I had just started and found another pretty pattern that I liked and started working on that.

Now for blanket #3 the pattern that I found for it is called Angled Eyelets blanket and it is a very pretty pattern. But it wasn't turning out the way that it looked in the pictures and my mom agreed that it didn't look right. So I had to find another pattern to use. Enter blanket #4. The pattern that I used for the last and final blanket is called Cozy Heart blanket and while it is a super easy pattern to follow and is a pattern that I will probably use again I didn't have enough yarn to make it the size that I wanted. Which leads me to blanket #5.

The pattern that I used for blanket #5 is called Mitered Blanket and like most of the patterns I use, I found it on Ravelry. And the nice thing about this blanket is that the gauge doesn't matter and you can use whatever yarn and needle you want to make it and it is super easy to make.

While the blanket was supposed to be finished by the wedding and given as a gift, it still isn't finished yest and is still sitting on the needles waiting to be finished. Besides not having enough time to work on it, part of the reason why it is taking me a long time to finish the blanket is because I started with 600 stitches on the needles. I haven't counted stitches since I started working on it but I am guessing, at this point in time, that I am not out of 500 stitches yet. I might be getting close to 400 but I still have a long way to go before the blanket is finished.
