Fourth Week of Advent

Image
“For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy.   Blessed are you who believed   that what was spoken to you by the Lord   would be fulfilled.”   Luke 1   On this last Sunday of Advent,   we quietly reflect on the mystery.   We rest in awe, in wonder,   at how our God entered our world and came to be with us.   We pause to receive the gift offered us:   that the Spirit of God will open up our lives and   that Jesus will really come into our hearts.   May we have watchful hope today,   believing what the Lord promises us.   Let us pray today, that we might be God's servants,   that we might be instruments of God's love   for our families and all we serve this week.   ... Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit,,       cried out in a loud voice and said,...

Third Week of Advent

Image
We begin this third week of Advent asking to feel the joy  that comes from knowing our Lord's coming to us is near.   In these precious days ahead, we are praying, longing, hoping   in the background of our everyday lives. His mission is for each of us who ask, "What must we do?"   He tells us to give away our coats, our security. He asks that we not bully people but be content with our lives. We can smile today as we imagine the freedom he has won for us   and how liberating it will be to live it, with him, for others.   It is right to give our God thanks and praise. Have no anxiety at all, but in everything,  by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving,  make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding  will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.   Philippians 4: 6-7 Shout for joy, O daughter Zion! Sing joyfully, O Israel! Be glad a...

Second Week of Advent

Image
God is leading Israel in joy by the light of his glory, with his mercy and justice for company. Baruch 5   We begin this second week of our Advent journey  with this wonderful proclamation of the end of our exile.  We really can take off our robe of misery and put on the splendor of the glory of God forever.   Let us experience today what it will be like to be  freed from the power of our sins to hold us captive.  Freed from our longing, our desire:  that we might be set free.   “The Lord has done great things for us; we are filled with joy.” Ps. 126   May the Lord bless us,   protect us from all evil   and bring us to everlasting life.   Amen.

Knitting

Image
Since I haven't talked about the knitting project(s) that I am currently working on, I thought I would bring you all up to date. Back in July I mentioned that I was working on another baby blanket . It is currently still a work in progress, though I am getting closer to finishing it. Even though I am almost finished with the blanket I had to stop and take a brake from it because I was tired of working on it and I needed to work on something else. That something else was another blanket, that was originally going to be for me, that I had started working on back at the beginning of the year. While I was working on one of the sections, I remembered that I had an extra skein of yarn in one of the colors that I was making the blanket with and I had an idea. Now I am working on making an infinity scarf using a pattern that I found through Pinterest. I started making it the other day and it looks really pretty. It is a really easy pattern to follow and to memorize. Because it is s...

First Week of Advent

Image
Judah shall be safe and Jerusalem dwell secure. We begin Advent coming to the Lord who promises to keep us safe. In awe we say: “To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul!” Psalm 25   Let's begin this week with a deeply felt prayer. Even if we don't know exactly what we need or long for, today, let's try to express our desire for God's help and assistance. The days are coming, says the Lord, when I will fulfill the promise I made to the house of Israel and Judah .     Jeremiah 33   He guides the humble to justice,  he teaches the humble his way.  Psalm 25 May the Lord bless us,  protect us from all evil  and bring us to everlasting life.  Amen.

Life and this Thing called NaNoWriMo

Image
Ever since I started this blog I have posted at some point, either in October or November, that I am doing this thing called National Novel Writing Month or NaNoWriMo for short. This is that post, though it is a little late. If you don't know what NaNoWriMo is, it is done during the month of November and you have to reach 50,000 words by the end of the month. I had been working on my story and had reach 21,762 words when this thing called life caught up with me and sort of pulled me away from my writing. To put it more accurately, I had to go into work earlier one day and then work late, and then I had to do homework for the online class that I am taking at the moment. And on top of that I came down with an annoying cold. When it first showed up on Wednesday morning, other then having the obvious runny nose, I felt fine. But by the time I got home from work it felt like I had been run over by a truck. Thursday morning, I ran off to class with a headach, a wattery eye, sinus...

How Much Does He Love Gnomes?

The other night, while at work, I was scrolling through my phone trying to find a poem generator that I liked. The reason that I was looking for it is because one of the characters in the story that I am working on writes a goofy poem. But I didn't like any of the poem generators that I found. In my searching, I can't remember if it was yesterday or today, I came across a song generator that I liked. Here is the song that the generator came up with titled: "How Much Does He Love Gnomes?" He gets on with life as a spy, He's an optimistic kinda chap. He likes rowing boats on Sundays, He likes playing chess in the week. He likes to contemplate tall people. But when he starts to daydream, His mind turns straight to gnomes. Oh oh oh! Sometimes I look at him and I look into his eyes, I notice the way he thinks about gnomes with a smile, Curved lips he just can't disguise. But he thinks it's tall people making his life worthwhile. Why is it so hard for him ...

Matthew 6:31-34

Image
As I am sure everyone knows by now, I often share things that I find on Pinterest. This is one of those posts.  Towards the end of September one of the suggested pins that came up was for a month long journal project that involved scripture for the month of October. Since I have always been trying to read the Bible more, I figured this was a good place to start. So I printed out the page, which can be found here . The theme for October is the Promises of God. I have been doing it every day and I am enjoying it. I do it every night before I go to bed and it is a great way to relax and unwind from electronics and the rest of the day. The verses from Monday's journal are from the gospel of Matthew chapter 6 verses 31-34. 31  Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’  32  For the Gentiles seek all these things; and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. 33  But seek first his k...

Curly-Edge Hat Part II

Image
Last week I shared a pattern for a hat that I have made multiple times before, and mentioned that I was working on another one, this time for a baby. As you can see from the picture, the hat is finished and is adorable!!! Even though the hat is supposed to have a curly edge, I decided to change it a bit and did a different stitch on the bottom of the hat instead. Which I think is what makes the hat even cuter. While I was finishing up the hat Rosy suggested that I add a flower to the hat, so I found a super easy pattern for a flower. Because it is such a simple pattern to follow it is easy to make multiple hats at a time. My mom wants me to make her a hat like the one I just made, though I have to figure out how to do that.

Curly-Edge Hats

Image
Since the cooler weather has finally arrived, YAY!! I started working on kitting a curly-edge hat. Please bear with me because I can't remember if I have already shared this pattern on here before. In case I haven't the pattern I am sharing is from the book "Kids Knitting: Projects for kids of all ages" by Melanie Falick. I have made this hat multiple times before, two times were as baby hats, and once for a stuffed animal. One of the baby hats that I made using this pattern. Since I just started working on a hat in this pattern I thought that it would be fun to share it here. The hat that I am currently making is another baby hat and the yarn that I am using to make it with is "Loops & Threads: Neopolitan." If I remember too, I will try and post a picture or two of the hat once it is finished. So that you can start making your own curly-edge hat, here is the pattern. With size 10 1/2 and 1 skein bulky yarn, cast on 72 stitches. Work in stockine...

3.5 Miles One Way

Image
Instead of hitting the beaches/pools for Labor Day, like we did (or attempted to do) last year, my family and I went hiking/walking instead. My mom was calling it a romp through the woods. After starting the day off with morning mass at the church that we attend and filling up water bottles and grabbing a snack, we set off to a forest preserve that is a couple minutes north of where we live. taken by me :) When we found a parking spot, there was a lot of people there, we started walking in the direction of the waterfall. *points to picture* Since it had been a number of years since any of us had been in this particular forest preserve we all forgot how far it was from where we had parked to where the waterfall was. By the time we reached the waterfall we had walked 3.5 miles one way. Since we were all rather tired from the long, hot walk we had just done, the cold water felt wonderful. After wading around for a bit my dad and brother ran back to where we had parked and drove t...

When You Discover Yarn Dyeing and Give It a Try

Image
Just recently on Pinterest I had started saving pictures of different colored yarn to my main knitting board. Instead of letting the yarn pictures get lost in that board I created a separate board for me to pin them too. Because I had started pinning a lot of pictures of yarn, I started getting suggested pins that were related to dying yarn with kool-aid and food coloring. Of course I had to start saving all of the yarn dying pins as well as putting them in their own board. After looking through the different ways to dye yarn I picked one way that I liked and decided to give it a try. It also helped that I already had a couple skeins of white yarn (The instructions can be found here ). Because it is boring and not a whole lot is going on, I skipped taking pictures of the yarn soaking in the water/vinegar. I didn't bother taking pictures when the yarn was in the microwave either, because you can't really see anything. Since I hardly ever use green yarn for anything, I decided...
