Labor of Love Blanket

This blanket started out as an idea that I based off of something similar that a friend of mine did. And the thought for this blanket came to me on Halloween of last year (2017) and I went with it though it took a little bit longer to actually form into a physical blanket.

Since I wanted this to be a surprise for my sister and her husband, I knew that I wouldn't be able to make it all myself. So I enlisted the help of my grandma and some friends to make some squares for the blanket. I also made a bunch for the blanket as well don't worry ;). Originally it was supposed to be finished in time for my sister's bridal shower back in April, but that didn't happen.

The day before the shower I went over to my grandma's house to start sewing the squares together so that my sister wouldn't be able to see it. As my grandma and I were laying out the squares that we had on the table, we both realized that we needed to add another row of squares as well as make several more to add to the rest of the rows. It's hard to see in the collage <-- but the middle square in the fourth row is multi-colored and the middle of the blanket which is why we had to add another row and add to the other rows. Between the two of us we crocheted and knit seven more squares to add on. By the time we finished both of our hands were sore and tired from all of the work that we had done.

Obviously I didn't get it finished in time for the bridal shower the next day since I had only started sewing one of the rows together the night before. Since my sister can sometimes be oblivious to things, but not while she's driving, I was able to bring the blanket home with me, though it sat in my car for a while, and work on it. My grandma and I also had the same idea to add a border around the edge of the blanket to make it bigger and to also give it a more finished look.

While the border isn't finished yet, I really need to work on it, I did show it to my sister and her husband before they left for their honeymoon and they both liked it. Once the border is finished I will share a picture or two of it here.
