Saint and Word of the Year
Even though I wrote a post on this topic last year, and probably one or two other times, I wanted to share the word of the year as well as the saint of the year that I received for 2020.
Found on Google and the parish website for St. Hyacinth Catholic Church in TX. |
Jennifer Fulwiler, the creator of both generators, shared the links on her Facebook page (and I think on Instagram/Twitter but I am not sure). When she shared the link and a picture of the first page for the Saint generator she added this clarification to the caption in the post.
(To clear you some confusion, this generator gives you the name of people canonized in the Catholic Church, not members of the football team 😂)
In the Wikipedia article that I looked at, there is a short paragraph about two different legends that involve St. Hyacinth helping people and feeding them pierogi. Because I love how random it all seems I am sharing it here.
"Święty Jacku z pierogami!" (St. Hyacinth with pierogi!) is an old-time saying, mentioning call for help in some hopeless circumstances.[6] It has derived from two legends. One of them is about his visit on July 13, 1238, to Kościelec. During his visit a hailstorm broke out, destroying crops and leaving people with a specter of poverty and famine. Hyacinth told them to pray. Next day crops have risen. People have treated Hyacinth with pierogi made from those crops as a token of gratitude. The second legend mentions Hyacinth feeding people with pierogi during the famine caused by Tatars invasion in 1241.
This year I received the word Liberate. Now I don't know what that word is supposed to mean for me, but I have an entire year to figure it out. Though I did find it a little ironic that I received St. Hyacinth as my patron saint for the year since he is the patron of Poland, which is a country that has, throughout its history, been ruled by different armies and such before it became its own country. And with Liberate as my word there is has to be some sort of connection.
