Oh Nuts

As I am sure everyone knows by now, I often share things that I find on Pinterest. This is one of those posts.  Towards the end of September one of the suggested pins that came up was for a month long journal project that involved scripture for the month of October. Since I have always been trying to read the Bible more, I figured this was a good place to start. So I printed out the page, which can be found here . The theme for October is the Promises of God. I have been doing it every day and I am enjoying it. I do it every night before I go to bed and it is a great way to relax and unwind from electronics and the rest of the day. Last week I shared a pattern for a hat that I have made multiple times before, and mentioned that I was working on another one, this time for a baby. As you can see from the picture, the hat is finished and is adorable!!! Even though the hat is supposed to have a curly edge, I decided to change it a bit and did a different stitch on the bottom of the hat instead. Which I think is what makes the hat even cuter. While I was finishing up the hat Rosy suggested that I add a flower to the hat, so I found a super easy pattern for a flower. Because it is such a simple pattern to follow it is easy to make multiple hats at a time. My mom wants me to make her a hat like the one I just made, though I have to figure out how to do that.

Since the cooler weather has finally arrived, YAY!! I started working on kitting a curly-edge hat. Please bear with me because I can't remember if I have already shared this pattern on here before. In case I haven't the pattern I am sharing is from the book "Kids Knitting: Projects for kids of all ages" by Melanie Falick. I have made this hat multiple times before, two times were as baby hats, and once for a stuffed animal. One of the baby hats that I made using this pattern. Since I just started working on a hat in this pattern I thought that it would be fun to share it here. Instead of hitting the beaches/pools for Labor Day, like we did (or attempted to do) last year, my family and I went hiking/walking instead. My mom was calling it a romp through the woods. After starting the day off with morning mass at the church that we attend and filling up water bottles and grabbing a snack, we set off to a forest preserve that is a couple minutes north of where we live. taken by me :) When we found a parking spot, there was a lot of people there, we started walking in the direction of the waterfall. *points to picture* Since it had been a number of years since any of us had been in this particular forest preserve we all forgot how far it was from where we had parked to where the waterfall was. Just recently on Pinterest I had started saving pictures of different colored yarn to my main knitting board. Instead of letting the yarn pictures get lost in that board I created a separate board for me to pin them too. Because I had started pinning a lot of pictures of yarn, I started getting suggested pins that were related to dying yarn with kool-aid and food coloring. Of course I had to start saving all of the yarn dying pins as well as putting them in their own board. After looking through the different ways to dye yarn I picked one way that I liked and decided to give it a try. It also helped that I already had a couple skeins of white yarn (The instructions can be found here ). Because it is boring and not a whole lot is going on, I skipped taking pictures of the yarn soaking in the water/vinegar. A couple weeks ago I decided to create a board on Pinterest that was specifically for photography challenges. Since I enjoy doing photography challenges every now and then, I figured it was time to start a board for collecting different kids of photography challenges. So far I have at least one photography challenge for each month, some months have multiple challenges. I also have multiple photography challenges that are for 31 days, or 30 days. There might be a few that are just 20 day challenges. I also saved a couple photography challenges that are for 20 weeks, as well as a few that are for 52 weeks. Out of the many photography challenges that I have saved, I picked out four different challenges that I thought were interesting and that I wanted to try. In 2011 I started working on a story idea that I had that was loosely based on the story of "The Frog Prince" and set in the West during the 1800's. While I liked the idea of having a retelling of a not very popular fairy tale it didn't really take off. Then in 2012 I went to a five day writing course that was given by one of my favorite authors. My idea was refined a bit more and placed in Medieval times and based on the story of St. George and the Dragon. Currently my story idea is a combination of King Arthur and St. George and the Dragon. With a little bit of the story of Moses possibly thrown in as well. Besides the ideas for my story changing all of the time, the name of my main girl character keeps changing as well. While I don't remember what her name was from 2011 - 2013, I do remember all of the names after that.
