Creative Gifts

Several weeks ago I found this idea on Pinterest for making candles. All you need to make the candle, besides the obvious wick and holder, is white or off-white wax and crayons. While I was making five to give as gifts I took a couple pictures.

Supplies:

  • Pre-shredded white or off-white wax (it works better than shredding up a candle)
  • Wicks
  • Clear empty votive candle holders
  • Crayons
  • Popsicle sticks
  • Dixie cups
  • A microwave
  • An old towel
  • an Exacto knife
To start out you have to take the wrappers off of the crayons and you can use an exacto knife to make it easier. After that you put some wax in dixie cup and melt it in the microwave so that you can make sure the bottom of the wick is secure in the candle holder. While that is hardening break up the crayon that you want on the bottom of the candle and melt it with a small handful of wax. Once it is melted use a popsicle stick to stir it together. You may need a little more wax to it. When I was making them I found that sticking the dixie cups of crayons and wax in the microwave for 2 minutes worked the best, though I suggest that you don't go over 2 minutes in the microwave because the cups will be very hot. In case you spill any thing use an old hand towel to clean it up. Before putting the second layer, if you choose to do multiple layers, let the bottom layer dry, or you can let the layers mix a little by letting the bottom layer still be a little wet when you do the second layer.
Though this is what they are supposed to end up looking like I didn't make mine like that

This is what mine ended up looking like, though I still think they are cool :D
