Winning Camp With A Slight Upper Respiratory Infection
Now you are probably scratching your heads and wondering what I mean by that very random title that I used for this post. Well, if you have seen some of my posts, then you know that I have participated in what is called National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo for short, for a while in November. Since July 2011, the same people who put on NaNoWriMo during November started what is called Camp NaNoWriMo. The first two years that they did Camp NaNo they had them back to back in July and August of 2011 and 2012. Now they do it in April and July so that people can participate in both if they want while still having time to plan everything.
Since Camp NaNo started I have been participating on and off since April 2013 and hadn't ever won any of them. Now back in November, I mentioned that I won the regular NaNoWriMo and I am happy to announce that I have won the July 2019 Camp NaNo. While the story that I have been working on for the past month isn't finished yet, and I might have mentioned it here once or twice before. I do plan on finishing it, especially since I have to have it mostly edited and then submitted for a surprise project that I am working on with several other fellow writers.
As for the slight upper respiratory infection. That is an annoying little bugger that decided to show up a week ago and as of yet, hasn't left. It has been really annoying because it has been a sore throat and couching a lot and not much else. Sometimes the couching is manageable but other times it sounds like I am coughing up five lungs. But I have been taking medication, gargling and drinking a lot of water to try and get it to leave as quickly as possible.
Now that we have covered both topics mentioned in the very random title I want to go back to talking about writing. While I enjoy participating in both NaNo and Camp NaNo, one thing that I like about writing during Camp is that you can set your own writing goal, unlike with the regular. What I mean by that, and I may have mentioned this before I don't remember, but in regular NaNo, everyone writes towards the goal of 50,000 words each. Meaning each person has to write that many words or more. And during Camp NaNo you can write the normal 50,000 words or you can pick your own word goal. This year for camp I was originally going for a goal of 12,000 words. But then, about a week or so ago, I changed my mind and bumped it down to 9,000 words instead. Not that is not considered cheating because the people who put together and run Camp NaNo say that you can do that if you want too.
I don't know if this feature is new this year or has been a part of Camp NaNo for a few years now but you can set your personal goal to either be words, hours, minutes, lines, or pages. Like I said I don't know if that is new this year or it has been around for a while. While I personally stuck to write 9,000+ words I liked seeing other people's goals be something different.
That is all I have to say at the moment. And I am slowly working on another post, but it is taking me a while to put my thoughts together on how I want to write it. So I hopefully will have another thoughtful-ish post up soon. But I can't make any promises. In the meantime happy reading!
